Как работает Simbye eSIM для Гваделупы?
Подключение менее чем за 2 минуты
Set it up before you fly
Buy the eSIM online and you get a link and QR code by email. Install it calmly at home on Wi-Fi and leave it switched off for now. Your normal SIM stays in the phone and your number stays your number.
Switch it on after landing
At Pôle Caraïbes airport in Les Abymes near Pointe-à-Pitre — or on the small airstrips of Marie-Galante, Terre-de-Haut in Les Saintes, La Désirade and Saint-François — turn on the Simbye line and enable data roaming for it. The Orange network usually appears within a minute or two, and there is no APN to type in anywhere.
Choose your data line
In your settings, set the eSIM as the line for mobile data and switch off data on your home SIM so nothing slips through your own contract. When you run low, top up online — the eSIM simply stays in the phone.
Проверить совместимость устройства
Убедитесь, что ваше устройство поддерживает eSIM перед покупкой

В каких сетях ты будешь на связи на Гваделупе?
In Guadeloupe this eSIM runs on the Orange network — you don't pick anything, your phone connects on its own.
With this eSIM you get access to one network, not a choice: Orange. As soon as you land and switch on the Simbye line with data roaming, your phone searches by itself and is usually connected within a minute or two. There is no APN to type in. If nothing happens after landing, flip airplane mode on and off, or set network selection to manual once and pick Orange. Because this eSIM uses only this one network, there is no backup route either: where Orange has no mast, you are offline — and on Basse-Terre that happens more often than the map suggests.
Around Pointe-à-Pitre, Les Abymes, Baie-Mahault with the Jarry business district, Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François and Le Moule the coverage is solid — exactly where most of the accommodation and the beaches of Grande-Terre are. On Basse-Terre the network largely follows the coast road through Sainte-Rose, Deshaies, Pointe-Noire, Bouillante, the town of Basse-Terre, Trois-Rivières and Capesterre-Belle-Eau. Inland it thins out: on the Route de la Traversée through the rainforest, on the climb up La Soufrière and on the trails to the Chutes du Carbet, expect dead spots. On Marie-Galante, Les Saintes and La Désirade you have signal in the villages such as Grand-Bourg, Saint-Louis or Terre-de-Haut, while it can drop out completely on the crossings and at remote bays. Download your maps and bookings beforehand and a dead spot stays a footnote.

What your home contract costs in the Caribbean — and why to check before you fly
Whether Guadeloupe is included in your contract depends entirely on your provider. With some plans it is; with many others it sits in a zone list you only find in your account, if at all. Some providers bill per megabyte, some sell day passes, others cut the connection once you hit a certain amount. Check before you fly: if Guadeloupe isn't in your plan, you often learn the price when the bill arrives.
And this is exactly where you need data. A rental car is practically compulsory on the islands, and without navigation you will find neither the turn-off to Grande Anse nor the parking spot at the Cascade aux Écrevisses. Hosts reply by messenger, boat trips and dives are confirmed by message, ferry times shift. Wi-Fi in gîtes and small hotels often reaches as far as the terrace and no further.
A prepaid eSIM flips that around: you fix the amount up front, there is no contract and no notice period, and when the data is gone it is gone rather than expensive. You know what the trip costs in data before you fly — and your usual number stays reachable, because your home SIM simply stays in the phone.
Where the network reaches — and where you are offline
Guadeloupe is not a flat destination. Grande-Terre is low, open and densely populated, and the Orange network carries reliably there: Pointe-à-Pitre, Les Abymes, Baie-Mahault, Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne, Saint-François, Le Moule, plus the north coast around Port-Louis and Anse-Bertrand. Basse-Terre, by contrast, is a volcanic massif covered in rainforest. The network follows the coast road through Sainte-Rose, Deshaies, Pointe-Noire, Bouillante, the town of Basse-Terre, Trois-Rivières and Capesterre-Belle-Eau — but as soon as you turn inland it goes quiet.
In practice: on the Route de la Traversée, on the climb up La Soufrière, at the Chutes du Carbet and on many national park trails, plan for no signal at all. The offshore islands also have coverage mainly where people live — Grand-Bourg and Saint-Louis on Marie-Galante, Terre-de-Haut in Les Saintes, the village on La Désirade. On the crossings and in the Petite-Terre nature reserve you cannot count on a connection.
The fix is simple and free: download the offline map for your area, screenshot your tickets and booking confirmations, and write down your accommodation's phone number. Then a dead spot in the rainforest is what it should be — part of the holiday, not a problem.
The ID rule applies in shops — not to this eSIM
Guadeloupe is part of France, where you have to show an ID to activate a prepaid SIM. None of that applies here: you are a guest on the Orange network, you register nowhere and show nobody a document. You don't need a local address either.
The honest trade-off: you get no +590 number. Calls and texts over the network don't work, and SMS confirmation codes will not arrive here. You can make calls through WhatsApp or a similar app, and your usual number stays reachable as long as your home SIM is still in the phone.

Приложения, которые действительно нужны тебе на Гваделупе
Almost everything you plan on the islands runs through mobile data: the ride to the beach, the bus timetable, the message to your host. Download the important apps before you fly — doing it at the airport is painful. And prepare for one thing that surprises many visitors: Uber does not run rides in Guadeloupe — Uber Eats does deliver, though. For rides, the islands have their own local solutions.
En Woute
The ride app people on the islands actually use: order a car now or book ahead, the price is fixed before you get in, payment runs through the app. One way to get around if you don't rent a car, alongside the classic taxis.
Uber does not run rides in Guadeloupe — only local operators do. User reviews suggest booking ahead rather than hailing a car on the spot; late at night, or away from Pointe-à-Pitre and Le Gosier, it can take a while. Signing up sends a code by SMS to a phone number — create the account at home with your own number. This eSIM can't take calls, and drivers like to phone, so give them your usual number and keep the in-app chat open.
Karulis
Bus app for the Pointe-à-Pitre area: live departures, route planning, buy credit and board with a QR code.
The network covers Les Abymes, Pointe-à-Pitre, Baie-Mahault, Le Gosier, Sainte-Anne and Saint-François — not Deshaies, Bouillante or the volcano side of Basse-Terre. Evenings and Sundays there is barely a service, and paying in the app needs a bank card.
Uber Eats
Food delivery that genuinely works here — above all in the built-up area around Pointe-à-Pitre, Les Abymes and Baie-Mahault.
Outside that area, on Marie-Galante or in smaller coastal villages, you order from the restaurant directly, usually by phone. Check in the app whether your address is in the delivery zone — that changes. Payment is by card, cash is generally not an option.
PayByPhone
Pay for street parking in central Pointe-à-Pitre from your phone instead of hunting for coins. You enter your rental car's plate and can extend from the restaurant table.
Only valid in the marked zones and only during the charging hours signposted on the spot — they're written on the meter. Nothing works without a bank card on file, and the account is tied to a phone number confirmed by SMS code — set it up before you travel with your own number.
SMGEAG
The water utility's app tells you when the supply in your commune will be switched off. Planned shut-offs, the tours d'eau, are part of daily life in Guadeloupe — anyone staying in a gîte or villa notices immediately.
French only, and you have to select your commune as a zone first or no alerts arrive. Billing and meter features need a customer account; as a traveller you only use the notifications.
The default channel on the islands: hosts, dive centres, boat tours and drivers reply there faster than by email. It runs on your data allowance, in-app voice calls included.
Signing up requires an SMS code sent to a phone number. This eSIM has no number — so set WhatsApp up at home with your own number and keep your usual SIM in the phone.
