No shop to find on the Hip Strip, no queue at arrivals, no passport handed over for a local SIM. Land at Sangster in Montego Bay or Norman Manley in Kingston and the Simbye line starts registering while you are still taxiing, so the transfer and the first message home are already sorted. Nothing to configure on your side: no APN to type, no profile to import, no app to open first — that was all handled when you installed the eSIM at home. If the bars stay empty once you are on the ground, put the phone in flight mode for ten seconds and let it back out; if that does not shake it loose, turn off automatic network selection and choose Flow by hand.
The coast is where you will spend most of your time, and the coast behaves: Montego Bay, Negril and Seven Mile Beach, Ocho Rios, Runaway Bay, Falmouth, Kingston and the north coast highway that links them. Port Antonio and Treasure Beach hold up in town. The interior is the honest gap. Cockpit Country in Trelawny is limestone hills and sinkholes with almost nobody living in them, and it shows on your screen. The Blue Mountains behave the same way: the ridge road up to Hagley Gap and the walk to Blue Mountain Peak drop out long before the summit, and so does the Rio Grande valley on a rafting trip. On the Junction road over Mount Diablo and the other mountain crossings between the north coast and Kingston, expect the signal to come and go with the bends.

Flow or Digicel in Jamaica — which network do you actually land on?
This eSIM rides on Cable and Wireless Jamaica, the network everyone knows as Flow. That covers Kingston, the north-coast resort belt from Montego Bay through Ocho Rios to Negril, the airports and the main highways well. Jamaica has also retired its old 2G layer — Flow closed its GSM network in April 2024 and Digicel decommissioned the island's last one on 28 February 2025 — so there is no ancient fallback network hiding underneath any more.
Be honest about the gaps: deep in Cockpit Country, on Blue Mountain trails and on back roads through Portland or St. Elizabeth the signal thins, and there Digicel sometimes reaches where Flow does not. Download your route offline before you leave the coast. You also get data only — no Jamaican number, so a villa host or a route taxi reaches you through WhatsApp.
