Как работает Simbye eSIM для Словакии?

Подключение менее чем за 2 минуты

1
Выбор eSIM-тарифа

Set it up before you fly

After your purchase you get an email. Tap the link once or scan the QR code — done. Do this at home on Wi-Fi, because setting it up needs internet, and that is exactly what you do not have on arrival.

2
Нажатие кнопки «Установить»

Switch it on after landing

Whether you land at Bratislava (BTS), Košice (KSC) or Poprad–Tatry (TAT): set the eSIM as your data line and leave data roaming on. It usually connects within a minute. If you arrive via Vienna and continue by bus or train, it only comes alive past the Slovak border.

3
Включение роуминга данных

Validity and topping up

The validity period starts with your first connection in Slovakia, not with the purchase — so you lose no days by setting it up early. When your data runs low, you top up without setting the eSIM up again.

You do not pick a network. In Slovakia the eSIM has access to Orange Slovensko, Slovak Telekom and O2 Slovakia, and your phone connects to one of them automatically; if it stays on a weak one as you travel, you can switch by hand in your settings. The one thing that matters is leaving data roaming switched on: to your phone this eSIM is a foreign connection, and without that switch it stays silent. If nothing happens for a minute after landing, airplane mode for a few seconds almost always fixes it. If it still stays dark, turn off automatic network search in your settings and pick one of the three networks by hand.

Coverage is solid in Bratislava and Košice, and equally in Žilina, Nitra, Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Trnava, Trenčín and Poprad, along the main route from Bratislava via Žilina to Košice, and in the High Tatras resort villages — Štrbské Pleso, Starý Smokovec, Tatranská Lomnica. How fast it gets for you depends on your phone, the local network and the time of day — we do not promise you 5G. It thins out exactly where Slovakia is at its most beautiful: in the gorges of Slovenský raj, in the forests of Malá Fatra, in the caves of the Slovak Karst and in the narrow valleys of the Low Tatras.

When your own mobile contract gets expensive in Slovakia

Roaming on your home contract is the expensive, unpredictable option: some providers bill per day, others per megabyte, and you usually only see the total on the invoice. Even a booked travel add-on for Slovakia often comes with a cap — once you pass it, every further megabyte is billed separately, and nobody tells you at the time. This eSIM is prepaid instead: a fixed amount, a fixed allowance between 1 and 20 GB or an unlimited plan, 7 to 30 days of validity, nothing billed afterwards.

What you also avoid matters just as much: no contract, no registration, no shop visit after landing. You buy the Slovakia eSIM online, set it up by QR code before you fly, and it only goes live once you arrive. Travellers from Turkey, the USA, Brazil, Japan, India and the Gulf states use it that way, and so do people who have burned through their allowance, travellers without a fixed contract, and anyone who would rather not put a work phone into roaming.

Where you have signal — and where to plan ahead

In the cities and along the main corridors, mobile internet in Slovakia is unremarkably good: Bratislava and Košice, the main route between them, the railway through the Váh valley and the larger towns along it. In the ski villages of the Low and High Tatras you normally have signal at the base stations — the higher you go and the narrower the valley, the thinner it gets.

It reliably disappears underground and between rock walls: in Demänovská Cave, in the Dobšiná Ice Cave, in the ladder gorges of Slovenský raj such as Suchá Belá, in the narrow valleys of Malá Fatra and the Low Tatras, and in some rail tunnels. Thick old walls in towns like Bardejov or Levoča swallow signal too. Download your map offline before a hike and tell your accommodation in advance when you expect to arrive — then a dead spot is just a dead spot, not a problem.

Slovak prepaid cards run in your name

Полезно знать

In Slovakia, Orange, Telekom and O2 all ask for an ID card or passport when you buy a prepaid SIM and register the card in your name. That is why buying one locally means showing your passport, and why it takes longer than you would expect. This eSIM does not run on a Slovak prepaid contract — there is nothing to register and no shop to visit.

In exchange, it is valid in Slovakia only. If you fly into Vienna and continue to Bratislava by bus or train, you have no connection while still on Austrian soil; the eSIM comes alive past the border. The same goes for day trips to Vienna, Budapest or Kraków — plan those journeys around your normal line or Wi-Fi.

Приложения, которые действительно нужны тебе в Словакии

Not on the list, but often useful day to day: Bolt runs in Košice and other cities besides Bratislava; for parking in Bratislava use PAAS or ParkDots, because SMS parking to 2200 is designed for Slovak numbers. Heading into the mountains, get Gopass for ski passes and cable cars in Jasná and the High Tatras, plus Mapy.cz, which shows the Slovak trail markings and works offline. For intercity coaches there is Ubian, RegioJet and FlixBus. Messenger, WhatsApp and Signal all work normally; we know of no blocking in Slovakia. The recurring catch with almost every app is the same one: registration wants an SMS code. Since this eSIM does not receive texts, set the accounts up at home while your usual number is still in the phone.

IDS BK

IDS BK

Timetables and tickets for buses, trams and trolleybuses in Bratislava and the surrounding region, switchable to English, paid by card.

The SMS ticket sent to the short code only works with a Slovak phone number. With this eSIM you buy in the app instead.

Hopin

Hopin

The Slovak taxi app: order a ride, see the price up front, pay by card in the app.

Uber is effectively limited to Bratislava in Slovakia; outside the capital Bolt is your best bet. Both send an SMS code when you register — create the account while your normal number can still receive texts.

eZnámka

eZnámka

The electronic motorway vignette for motorways (D) and expressways (R), bought against your licence plate — as a 1-day, 10-day, 30-day or 365-day vignette.

Rental cars from Austria, Hungary or Poland usually do not come with a Slovak vignette. Enforcement is automatic, by camera reading the plate. You can buy it on the road in the app — for which you need internet.

IDeme vlakom

IDeme vlakom

The app of the state railway ZSSK: connections across the country, ticket as a QR code, interface available in English.

RegioJet trains — for example towards Prague or on the Bratislava–Komárno line — cannot be booked here, they have their own app.

Wolt

Wolt

Food and supermarket orders delivered to your hotel, in Bratislava, Košice, Žilina, Poprad and around a dozen more towns.

Uber Eats and Deliveroo do not operate in Slovakia; delivery runs through local services such as Wolt and Bistro.sk. You pay by card in the app, and small towns and mountain areas are not served.

Záchranka

Záchranka

Emergency app for Slovakia and Czechia: one button sends your location to the rescue dispatcher. Built for hikers and skiers in the mountains.

Registration runs through a phone number, and the emergency call itself is a real call. A data-only plan cannot make calls — 112 works from any phone, but for this app keep your normal SIM in the device.
