Bosna-Hersek'te hangi şebekeleri kullanacaksın?

Whether you end up on BH Telecom or HT-Eronet is decided by your phone on the spot, by signal strength — there is nothing to pick by hand.

BH Telecom
HT-Eronet

The eSIM is enabled for the BH Telecom and HT-Eronet networks. Which one you end up on is decided automatically by your phone based on signal strength — there is nothing to configure and no access point to type in. If one network drops out, the device switches on its own. One thing worth knowing beforehand: Bosnia and Herzegovina has no 5G in regular service yet, the frequencies still have not been auctioned. So expect 4G/LTE.

BH Telecom is the largest operator in the country and carries the signal in Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica, Bihać and most towns in between. HT-Eronet is strongest in Herzegovina — Mostar, Široki Brijeg, Međugorje, Livno and the short stretch of coast at Neum. In Banja Luka, Trebinje and across the north and east, the local heavyweight is m:tel; m:tel is not part of this eSIM, so there you run on BH Telecom's own network. In the cities that is no problem, in smaller places in Republika Srpska coverage can be thinner. And because this is mountain country, the connection cuts out in places in Sutjeska National Park, on Bjelašnica and Jahorina, in the Rakitnica canyon and on the switchbacks between Jajce and Bihać. Download maps and timetables before you set off.

No 5G, no ID, no phone number

Bilmekte fayda var

5G is not in regular service in the country yet: the frequencies still have not been auctioned, and an auction has only been announced. So you'll be on 4G/LTE, which moves briskly in Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla and Banja Luka and slows down noticeably in the mountains. Download maps, timetables and translations offline before you head out of the cities.

There is no registration requirement for this eSIM: you buy online, set it up yourself with a QR code and show no ID. We are not aware of any network block on foreign eSIMs, and internet calls over WhatsApp, Viber or FaceTime are not blocked in the country. What the eSIM does not come with is a Bosnian phone number — it delivers data only.

Why your home contract gets expensive here

For just about every mobile contract in the world, Bosnia and Herzegovina is abroad, and abroad means roaming. The people it catches out most are those driving over from Croatia for an afternoon in Mostar or at the Kravice waterfalls: the phone quietly registers on a foreign network, and the bill arrives four weeks later.

What your provider charges for that is in your contract, and it varies wildly. Some sell day passes for the Western Balkans, others bill per megabyte, others throttle you after a few hundred megabytes. If you want to know the cost of the trip in advance, that gets you nowhere.

A prepaid data plan for the country turns it around: you book a fixed allowance between 1 and 20 GB, set the eSIM up at home on Wi-Fi with a QR code, and it only goes live once you are there. No contract, no registration, no bill afterwards. Your usual number stays active alongside it — data runs on the eSIM, calls and texts still go through your home tariff at its rates.

eSIM on BH Telecom or HT-Eronet: which network carries you where

The country has three major network operators, and their strength follows the political map. BH Telecom is the largest and at home in the Federation: Sarajevo, Tuzla, Zenica, Bihać. HT-Eronet is the smallest of the three and strongest where the Croat population lives — Mostar, Široki Brijeg, Livno, Tomislavgrad, Međugorje and the narrow strip of coast at Neum. m:tel dominates Republika Srpska with Banja Luka, Trebinje and Bijeljina.

This eSIM uses BH Telecom and HT-Eronet. In Sarajevo, in the Herzegovina triangle around Mostar, in Tuzla, Zenica and Bihać you are well covered, and the main arrival points Sarajevo, Tuzla, Banja Luka and Mostar are covered too. In Republika Srpska you are carried by BH Telecom's own network; in the cities you won't notice a difference, in remote villages m:tel may be denser.

Then there's the terrain, and in Bosnia and Herzegovina that is the real adversary. In Sutjeska National Park, on the Olympic mountains Bjelašnica and Jahorina, in the Rakitnica canyon, in Una National Park and on the switchbacks between Jajce and Bihać, the connection drops out completely in places. That is not a quirk of this eSIM — it applies to every card in the country, local ones included. Download maps, timetables and translations offline before you head into the mountains, and never rely on an app alone when hiking.

Bosna-Hersek'te gerçekten ihtiyacın olan uygulamalar

Bosnia and Herzegovina is not a country where the big international apps cover everything. Uber and Bolt do not operate here, and Glovo left the market in August 2026. What remains are local apps — and with several of them, travellers run into the same wall: they want a Bosnian phone number or a local bank card. This eSIM gives you data, but no phone number. So set up anything that needs an SMS code to register while you are still at home and your usual number is active. In Sarajevo or Mostar you flag taxis down in the street or have the hotel order one. And carry cash in Convertible Mark (KM): plenty of taxis, bakeries and parking machines take no card at all.

mojTaxi

mojTaxi

The most widely used taxi app in the country, above all in Sarajevo. You drop a pin and see the driver's name, plate and car on the map. It brings several licensed taxi associations together in one app.

Uber and Bolt do not operate in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sign-up often wants a Bosnian phone number, and travellers regularly report foreign credit cards being rejected. Bring cash in Convertible Mark (KM) — most drivers settle in cash off the meter anyway.

BH Mine Suspected Areas

The official app of the mine action centre BHMAC. Shows mine-suspected areas on the map, gives the distance to the nearest one and alerts you when you get close. Matters for hiking, cycling and camping.

The app replaces neither warning signs nor a local guide. Warning markers in the field keep disappearing. Outside the cities, stay on marked paths even when the app shows nothing. It needs constant location and data — in a dead spot it cannot warn you.

Korpa

Korpa

The delivery service left standing after Glovo pulled out — food, groceries and pharmacy items. Active in Sarajevo, Mostar, Tuzla, Zenica, Banja Luka, Bijeljina, Doboj and Prijedor. Pay online or cash at the door.

Glovo left the market in August 2026. The courier needs a reachable phone number to call you back — this eSIM has none. Give your accommodation's number, or have reception order for you.

Javni Prevoz KS

Javni Prevoz KS

Timetables and tickets for Sarajevo's trams, trolleybuses and buses, available in English. You buy the ticket on your phone and scan it as you board.

It covers Sarajevo Canton only. In Mostar, Tuzla or Banja Luka it is useless to you. Centrotrans intercity coaches are not included, and there is no tap-and-go card system in the country.

Klix.ba

Klix.ba

One of the country's most-read news sites as an app. Useful for road closures, storms, strikes and last-minute changes that never show up in a travel app.

The content is almost entirely in Bosnian. Without your browser's translation feature you will not get far.

Viber

Viber

Alongside WhatsApp, the second messenger many people here use. Guesthouses, guides, hosts and taxi drivers often answer faster on Viber than by email.

Creating a Viber account needs a phone number and an SMS code. Set Viber up at home while your normal number is still active — this eSIM cannot receive SMS.
