알바니아에서 Simbye eSIM은 어떻게 사용하나요?

1
eSIM 데이터 요금제 선택

Set it up before you fly

After your purchase you get an email with a link and a QR code. Set the eSIM up calmly at home on Wi-Fi. That does not start the clock — the validity begins the first time your phone connects to a network in Albania. While you are at it, download the offline map of Albania and the apps you will need.

Arrive

Whether you land at Tirana "Nënë Tereza" airport in Rinas, arrive at Kukës, come in by ferry from Bari or Ancona to Durrës, cross over from Corfu to Sarandë, or drive in overland from Kosovo, Montenegro or Greece: the moment you are in Albania, the eSIM finds the network by itself. No queuing at an airport counter.

3

Turn on data roaming

The eSIM works as a guest on the Albanian network, so data roaming has to be switched on for that line — it costs you nothing extra. Set the eSIM as your data line and turn data off on your home SIM so nothing slips onto your expensive contract by accident. Calls and texts keep running on your usual number.

알바니아에서는 어떤 통신망을 쓰게 되나요?

How your Albania eSIM gets online — and how far the One Albania and Vodafone Albania networks actually reach.

The eSIM finds the network on its own. Once you arrive in Albania and data roaming is switched on for that line, your phone connects to One Albania or Vodafone Albania, whichever signal is stronger where you are standing. There is nothing to type in — no code, no settings. If nothing happens after a few minutes, flip airplane mode on and off once, or pick the network by hand in your settings. One thing hardly anyone thinks about: near a border, a phone happily grabs the strongest signal from the other side. Corfu sits directly across from Sarandë and Ksamil, and Montenegro is close to Shkodra. This plan covers Albania only — if your phone latches onto a network across the border, you have no data until it switches back.

Albania has two mobile operators, One Albania and Vodafone Albania, and this eSIM can use both. In Tirana, Durrës, Vlora, Sarandë, Ksamil, Shkodra, Berat, Korça and Gjirokastra, along the Riviera coast road and on the main highways you get ordinary 4G. 5G in Albania is still being rolled out and is essentially limited to Tirana and parts of Durrës — everywhere else you are on 4G, which carries maps, bookings, streaming and video calls without trouble. It gets thin in the Albanian Alps. Theth and Valbona have patchy signal at best, usually at the guesthouse and not much further, and the hiking trail between the two villages has none for long stretches. Download the offline map for that region beforehand and write down the address and phone number of your guesthouse before you set off.

알바니아에서 eSIM과 현지 유심 중 어느 쪽이 좋을까요?

Take the eSIM in Albania: it hooks onto One Albania or Vodafone by itself the minute you land, while a local card needs your passport registered before it works — it does give you an Albanian number, though.

Why roaming on your home contract gets expensive in Albania

In most mobile contracts Albania sits in the most expensive foreign zone. It is billed either as a daily or weekly travel pass or straight per megabyte, and with many providers you only see the price on the bill. The uncomfortable part is that you do not have to do anything for it: a background photo upload, a few map lookups on the road from Rinas airport into Tirana, mail syncing on its own — and the meter is running before you even reach the hotel.

A prepaid eSIM for Albania turns that around. You buy in advance, pay once, and the price is settled before you take off. There is no contract, no registration and no commitment, and the validity only starts with your first connection in Albania, so you can set it up weeks ahead. You can choose between 1 and 50 GB as well as unlimited plans, with durations from 7 to 180 days — from a week in Tirana and on the Riviera to half a year. And the flip side belongs here just as honestly: a data plan for Albania is a plan for Albania. It ends at the border with Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Greece.

Where One Albania and Vodafone Albania reach — and where they don't

Albania is served by two mobile operators: One Albania, which absorbed the former provider ALBtelecom, and Vodafone Albania. This eSIM can use both and automatically takes the stronger signal. In practice that means solid 4G in Tirana and Durrës, along the whole Riviera from Vlora through Himara and Sarandë down to Ksamil, in Shkodra up north, in Berat, Gjirokastra and Korça, and on the main roads and the motorway towards Kosovo. 5G is still being built out and is essentially limited to Tirana and parts of Durrës — anyone expecting 5G everywhere will be disappointed, though in daily use you will not notice.

The real gaps are in the mountains. In the Albanian Alps around Theth and Valbona, signal is the exception rather than the rule, and on the pass trail between the two villages it is absent for long stretches. It thins out much the same way in the Osumi canyons and on small inland mountain roads. If that is where you are heading, download the map offline first, save your accommodation with its address and phone number, and treat the connection as a useful fallback rather than your navigation device. One more quirk of this country: Corfu is within sight of Sarandë and Ksamil, and Montenegro is close to Shkodra. Your phone will occasionally grab the signal from across the water or the border — and your data drops out briefly until it hops back onto the Albanian network.

Albanian SIM cards are only sold against a passport

알아두면 좋은 점

If you buy an Albanian SIM card locally, it has to be registered to your passport before it is activated. That is required by law and costs you a few minutes at the arrivals-hall counter. This eSIM skips that step, because you travel as a guest on the Albanian networks rather than signing an Albanian contract. The trade-off is that you do not get an Albanian phone number either.

The alternative is roaming on your contract from home, and that is exactly what gets murky in Albania: in most contracts the country sits in the most expensive foreign zone, billed as a daily or weekly pass or per megabyte. The Western Balkans roaming area you may have heard about only applies between Albania, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina — it does nothing for your contract back home.
