Order before you fly
Pick the data amount and the number of days, pay, and the email with link and QR code arrives straight away. Install the eSIM calmly at home on Wi-Fi — the clock does not start yet.
Arrive in Jordan
Whether you land at Queen Alia International Airport near Amman, at King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba, or cross a land border such as the King Hussein Bridge: take the phone out of airplane mode and switch data roaming on for the eSIM. That is all.
Head off
Your phone joins the Zain network, and that is when the plan starts running. Hotspot for a laptop or a travel companion is allowed. When the data runs low, top up online without swapping anything.

Your Zain Jordan eSIM connects to the Zain network, which covers the main cities, the tourist sites and the highways from Irbid down to Aqaba.
모바일 인터넷 실측 평균값, nPerf 바로미터(측정 기간 01.01.2025 – 31.12.2025). 실제 속도는 위치, 시간대, 단말기에 따라 달라집니다.
There is nothing to configure. Once you land in Jordan with the eSIM installed, your phone finds and joins Zain on its own — and the plan only starts counting from that first connection, not from the day you bought it. The one thing that matters is that data roaming is switched on for this line, otherwise nothing comes through. If nothing happens after a few minutes, toggle airplane mode off and on, or pick Zain by hand in your network settings. No APN to type in.
The populated corridors are well covered: Amman with Downtown, Abdali and Rainbow Street, plus Zarqa, Irbid, Salt, Madaba, Jerash and Ajloun in the north and Aqaba on the Red Sea in the south. The Dead Sea hotel road, Wadi Musa right outside Petra and both north-south routes, the Desert Highway and the King's Highway, normally have signal too. It thins out where almost nobody lives: down in the Siq, on the climb to the Ad-Deir Monastery and in the far corners of Petra, in the Wadi Mujib canyons, in the Dana reserve, on stages of the Jordan Trail and in the desert camps of Wadi Rum. Rum village and the visitor centre usually have coverage, but deeper between the rock formations it is no longer reliable.
요르단에서 eSIM과 현지 유심 중 어느 쪽이 좋을까요?
| 비교 | Simbye eSIM | 현지 유심 |
|---|---|---|
| ID requirement | None — you buy online and show nothing to anyone | At the counter the operators normally ask for your passport |
| When you are online | Right after landing, still at the gate in Amman | Only once the counter is staffed and the queue has cleared |
| Where you get it | By email, wherever you happen to be | At Queen Alia Airport in Amman, in Aqaba, or in a shop in town |
| Payment | In your own currency by card | Usually cash in Jordanian dinars, which you have to obtain first |
| Price known in advance | Yes, you see it when you buy | No, only at the counter — airport rates are normally higher than in town |
| Phone number | None, data only | A local Jordanian number is included |
| Topping up | Online any time, no new card | Scratch cards or the operator's app, often in Arabic |
| Your home number | Stays active and reachable on your main SIM | Goes offline the moment you swap the card, unless your phone takes two SIMs |
Why roaming on your home contract gets expensive in Jordan
Wherever your contract comes from — Berlin, Istanbul, New York, São Paulo or Dubai — Jordan is a foreign network for it. Your operator then falls back to its international tariff, billed per megabyte or sold as a daily pass, and you usually learn the exact figure only when the bill arrives.
It is rarely one single tap that costs money, it is ordinary use: maps in Amman, a few voice notes, the Wadi Rum photo into the family chat, an episode in the hotel at night. Billed per megabyte that adds up faster than most people expect, and you only notice after the trip.
A prepaid data eSIM turns it around. You pay a fixed amount up front for a fixed amount of data, between 1 and 5 GB, with no contract and no registration behind it. Your usual number stays active on your main SIM, so your bank and your office can still reach you while you go online through Zain.
Where the network reaches — and where it thins out
Jordan is a small country with only a few densely settled corridors, and that is exactly where the network is good. Amman with Downtown, Abdali and Rainbow Street, plus Zarqa, Irbid, Salt, Madaba, Jerash and Ajloun in the north and Aqaba on the Red Sea in the south. The Dead Sea hotel road, Wadi Musa at the gates of Petra and both north-south routes, the Desert Highway and the King's Highway, are covered as well.
It gets thinner away from those lines — and away from those lines is exactly where you want to go. Barely any signal reaches down into the Siq, the narrow gorge leading to the Treasury at Petra, and it drops out on the climb to the Ad-Deir Monastery. In the Wadi Rum desert camps, reception depends on which rock the camp sits behind: Rum village and the visitor centre usually have signal, further out it is no longer dependable. The same goes for the Wadi Mujib canyons, the Dana reserve and many stages of the Jordan Trail.
Dealing with it is simple. Download offline maps, your tickets and your Jordan Pass while you are still in town, and agree fixed times and meeting points with drivers and camps instead of relying on a spontaneous phone call.
Messaging apps can be blocked during exam season
During the nationwide Tawjihi school exams in summer, Jordan's regulator TRC has temporarily blocked messaging apps — documented for June and July 2024. That applies to every network in the country, a Zain eSIM included. If you travel in that window, do not assume WhatsApp and the rest will be reachable around the clock; agree fixed times and meeting points with drivers, hotels and desert camps instead.
Second thing worth knowing: the days only start counting once the eSIM first connects to Zain inside Jordan. You can install it at home the evening before your flight without losing a day.

요르단에서 정말 필요한 앱
In Jordan nearly everything runs through two or three apps — and through WhatsApp. The thing to plan for: this eSIM gives you data, not a phone number. Sign-up codes sent by SMS will not arrive on it. Set your accounts up at home while you can still receive your own number. And one point nobody tells you in advance: Jordan's payment apps such as CliQ, eFAWATEERcom and Zain Cash assume a Jordanian bank account or a local number. As a visitor you will not get in. Carry cash in Jordanian dinars, especially for taxis, small restaurants and the desert camps.
Careem
The most used ride app in the country. Cars in Amman, plus Irbid, Zarqa and Aqaba. You see the fare before you get in and you do not have to haggle in Arabic.
Signing up needs an SMS code, and this data eSIM cannot receive one. Create the account at home. Many drivers still want cash in dinars.
Uber
In Jordan it runs mainly in and around Amman. Handy if the app is already on your phone and you would rather not set up anything new.
Outside Amman you will barely find a driver. For Petra, Wadi Rum or the drive to the Dead Sea, take a local taxi or a booked driver instead.
Jeeny
A local alternative to Careem and Uber, operating in Jordan and Saudi Arabia. Worth keeping as a second app when nothing is free at rush hour.
Sign-up is by SMS code as well, so set it up before you travel. Outside Amman the supply of cars is noticeably thinner.
Talabat
Food and grocery delivery, live in 14 Jordanian cities including Amman, Aqaba, Irbid, Zarqa, Madaba, Jerash, Karak, Salt and Petra.
Addresses in Jordan are often vague, so the driver phones you. Without your own number he cannot reach you — give your hotel's number and wait down at the street.
JETT
The country's main coach operator. Book seats online from Amman to Petra, Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Jerash, Ajloun and Karak — a cheap way around the country without a rental car.
Only a few departures a day on the tourist routes, and they fill up early in season. Book a few days ahead, not on the morning you travel.
The default channel in Jordan. Hotels, drivers, guides and desert camps reply on WhatsApp, usually faster than by email. It works normally over the data eSIM.
Do not log out or reinstall while you are away. Signing back in needs an SMS code sent to your number, and a data-only plan cannot receive it.
