Which networks will you be on in Chile?
Your phone takes whichever Chilean network reaches further where you happen to be standing — Movistar or WOM, decided automatically.

You are not locked to one Chilean operator. The line reads both Movistar and WOM and stays on whichever one is actually reaching you, and that can swap between Santiago and a valley in the south without you noticing. Land at Arturo Merino Benítez in Santiago, or come in at Calama, Puerto Montt or Punta Arenas, turn on data roaming for the Simbye line, and you are online while the plane is still taxiing. Nothing to set up: no APN, no profile, no app to open first. If the bars stay empty for a minute or two, flip airplane mode on for ten seconds and off again. If that does not do it, switch off automatic network selection and pick the other Chilean network from the list yourself.
Santiago, Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Concepción, La Serena, Antofagasta, Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas are solid, and Route 5 down the spine of the country carries well between them. San Pedro de Atacama, Pucón, Puerto Varas and the Elqui Valley hold up in and around the towns. Beyond that it gets honest fast. The Atacama away from the road drops out — the Valle de la Luna after dark, the altiplano tracks up to the El Tatio geysers, the long empty run north of Copiapó. So does most of Torres del Paine once you are out on the circuit, the Carretera Austral through Aysén, the fjord ferries out of Puerto Montt and Quellón, and the high Andes passes over to Argentina. Where Movistar has nothing, WOM sometimes still does, and the other way round — turn off automatic selection and choose the other network by hand.

Will Chile block your phone after 30 days? What the rule covers
The story is real, and it frightens people before they book. Under SUBTEL's Multibanda/SAE rules, a phone bought abroad and activated with a Chilean SIM card gets a text saying: register your mobile or it will be blocked in 30 days. You then have thirty days to run the IMEI through a certifier SUBTEL has authorised. Devices that skip it lose service on Chilean networks; that blocking has been switched on since 13 March 2019.
SUBTEL spells out the exception itself: anyone using roaming or Wi-Fi has nothing to file. That is exactly what you have here — a roaming profile on Movistar and WOM, no Chilean SIM card in your name, no IMEI appointment, no certifier. What you give up is the local side: no Chilean number, so no calls or texts on a +56 line.
