How does Simbye eSIM work for Lithuania?
Pick a plan and pay
Choose the amount of data that fits your trip: 1 GB covers a long weekend of maps and messaging, while 10 or 20 GB suits you if you work on the road or keep a hotspot running. The email with your link and QR code arrives right after payment.
Set it up at home
Install the eSIM calmly over Wi-Fi: tap the link or scan the QR code, done. That does not start the clock – the validity period begins with your first connection in Lithuania. So after landing at Vilnius (VNO), Kaunas (KUN) or Palanga (PLQ) there is nothing left to install.
Switch it on after landing
Turn off airplane mode, switch on data roaming for the Simbye line – that is how it is meant to work and costs nothing extra – and turn off mobile data on your main line. A few seconds later one of the Lithuanian networks appears in your status bar – shown as Telia, Omnitel, Bitė or Tele2, depending on the phone.

Which networks will you be on in Lithuania?
In Lithuania your eSIM picks the network on its own – there is nothing for you to set.
The Simbye eSIM uses 3 networks in Lithuania: Omnitel · Bite · Tele2.

You do not pick a network. The eSIM is cleared for Telia (formerly Omnitel), Bitė and Tele2 at the same time, and your phone takes whichever has the best signal. When the signal drops, it moves on by itself. One thing matters: Lithuania's 3G networks are switched off – Telia back in 2022, Tele2 and Bitė in 2025. Your phone has to support 4G or 5G; a 3G-only device will no longer get a data connection there.
Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys are densely covered and have 5G. On the coast in Palanga and Šventoji, and in the resort villages of Nida and Juodkrantė on the Curonian Spit, you get a normal signal; in the forested stretches and among the dunes of the Spit it can drop out briefly. The same goes for the Aukštaitija and Dzūkija national parks, the forests around Druskininkai and the small country roads between Anykščiai and Zarasai. Trakai, the Hill of Crosses near Šiauliai and the shores of the Curonian Lagoon are unproblematic.
eSIM or a local SIM card in Lithuania?
Lithuania makes the case for the eSIM by itself: since 2025 a local prepaid card has to be registered to you, and its menus and top-ups arrive in Lithuanian, while your eSIM is set up in English at home.
| Feature | Local SIM card | |
|---|---|---|
| ID and registration | Not needed, the eSIM connects to the Lithuanian networks as a guest | Since January 2025 Lithuanian prepaid cards must be registered to a person; foreigners identify with a photo of their ID or in a store |
| When you are online | Straight after landing, because you set it up at home | Only once you have bought a card and completed the registration with your ID |
| Paying | In advance with your card, before you fly | In euros on the spot; registration is done with a photo of your ID or in a store |
| Your usual number | Stays active, calls and texts keep running on your main line | Swapping cards leaves you unreachable on your old number for a while |
| Language | Purchase, email and support in English | Menus, top-ups and terms are often in Lithuanian; the prepaid brands are Pildyk, Labas and Ežys |
| Topping up | Any time in your account or the app, from anywhere | Buy a credit voucher in a kiosk or supermarket and type in the code |
| Calls and SMS | Not possible on this plan, it is data only with no Lithuanian number | A Lithuanian number is included, so you can call and receive texts |
| If something goes wrong | Support in English, you write to us from wherever you are | Back to the store, with your receipt and during opening hours |
For most travelers the eSIM is the simpler choice: set up before departure, no queuing on arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lithuania eSIM
Data, calls, real phone numbers, top-ups and setup — everything you need to know before you buy a Simbye eSIM.
No — the eSIM does not work in Latvia or Poland, it is valid in Lithuania only. If you arrive via Riga or Warsaw and continue by bus or car, you come online at the Lithuanian border. For several countries you need a regional or worldwide plan.
No, you don't need ID or have to register in Lithuania for this eSIM. Since January 2025, Lithuanian prepaid cards must be registered with ID and personal details. Our eSIM is not a Lithuanian prepaid card – it connects to the networks as a guest, so there is nothing for you to show.
No, you can't make calls or receive text messages with this eSIM. This is a data-only plan with no Lithuanian number, so the network carries neither calls nor SMS. Calls over WhatsApp, Signal or FaceTime work normally because they run on data. Your usual number stays reachable on your main line, and that is the line you use for the 112 emergency number too.
The signal is good enough for Nida, Juodkrantė and Palanga, where the network works normally. Among the forests and dunes of the Spit it can drop out briefly, so download the map of the region offline beforehand and you will find your way back to the car park without bars.
For a week in Lithuania, 3 to 5 GB usually covers maps, messaging and a bit of social media. If you also upload photos, stream video or run a laptop off the hotspot, 10 or 20 GB serves you better.
Yes, you can use it alongside your normal SIM in Lithuania. Your phone runs two lines: your usual number stays active for calls and texts, while data goes over the eSIM. On a work phone that gives you a separate, private data line.
You can buy an eSIM for Lithuania right here on this page — pick a data bundle, pay, and the QR code plus install link reach you by email within minutes. Scan the code at home while you are still on Wi-Fi, then activate data once you arrive in Vilnius. No shop, no contract, no plastic SIM.
Yes, an eSIM for Lithuania is a digital plan that runs on the country's own mobile networks. The country's mobile networks carry eSIM profiles, so your phone connects on arrival in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda and across the countryside just as it would with a normal SIM card. Your handset only has to support eSIM and be carrier-unlocked.
An eSIM for Lithuania starts at 1,95€; the exact price depends on the data size and validity you choose. You pay once at checkout and nothing recurs afterwards, so a weekend break costs less than a two-week stay.
The eSIM that is best for Lithuania comes down to three things: networks, data and days. This one is cleared for Telia, Bitė and Tele2 at the same time and your phone takes the strongest — good in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys, patchier in the Curonian Spit dunes and the Aukštaitija forests. One hard limit: the 3G networks are switched off, so your phone must do 4G or 5G. Data only, no Lithuanian number.
