Which networks will you be on in Turkey?
Two of Turkey's three big networks — your phone automatically takes whichever has better reception where you are.
The Simbye eSIM uses 2 networks in Turkey: Turk Telekom · Vodafone.
Average measured mobile internet performance, nPerf barometer (measured 01.04.2025 – 31.03.2026). What you actually get depends on where you are, the time of day and your phone.
There is nothing to set up for this. When one network gets weak, your phone moves to the other on its own. The name in your status bar tells you which one you are on — it shows the Turkish network's name, not "Simbye".
You are already connected in the arrivals hall in Istanbul or Antalya, on whichever of the two networks is stronger there. Along the coast and in the big cities — Istanbul, Antalya, Izmir, Bodrum — that gives you two networks instead of one. It helps most on trips inland, towards Cappadocia or Pamukkale: there are valleys there that only one of the two covers properly.
eSIM or a local SIM card in Turkey?
Turkey comes down to effort: the eSIM rides two networks and switches by itself, with nothing to register, while a local card ties you to one network and has your passport recorded — but it comes with a Turkish number.

Buying ahead instead of roaming: what changes
Roaming on your home contract works differently for everyone — depending on your provider and where you live you pay a daily fee, a rate per megabyte, or nothing at all. Most people only find out which it was when the bill arrives after the trip.
This eSIM turns that into a fixed item: you choose the data and the days before you buy — 7 to 180 days, 1 to 50 GB or unlimited — and pay in advance, in your own currency.
And because there is no contract behind it, there is nothing to cancel and nothing to register. The plan simply ends when your trip does.
Where the two networks reach
Between Sultanahmet, Kadıköy and Istanbul's two airports, two networks are as useful as they are along the riviera around Antalya, Side, Belek, Kemer and Alanya.
The same goes for the Aegean — Izmir, Çeşme, Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye. On day trips inland, to Cappadocia with Göreme and Ürgüp, to the terraces of Pamukkale or to Ephesus near Selçuk, you get two chances of a signal instead of one.
On the high-speed line between Istanbul, Eskişehir, Ankara and Konya your phone also picks whichever of the two is holding up as you go.
How much data do you need in Turkey?
So you can work it out instead of guessing: how much an hour costs in the apps you actually use on holiday.
The Netflix and Spotify figures come from the providers themselves (Netflix Help Center, Spotify Support, retrieved 28 Aug 2026). The rest are network-operator estimates (o2, Vodafone, EE) and vary with picture quality and reception.
Is an eSIM blocked or banned in Turkey? What actually applies
You may have read that Turkey blocks foreign phones. That is true — but only if you put in a Turkish SIM card with a Turkish number and use that handset for months. After roughly 120 days the Turkish networks block a phone that has not been registered.
