You are not tied to your own carrier here, and there is no counter to find at the other end. The line comes up while you are still walking through Kotoka in Accra — often before you reach immigration. There is nothing to configure: no APN to type in, no profile to choose, no app you have to open before data moves. You switch on data roaming for the Simbye line and the phone sorts out the rest by itself. If nothing shows after a few minutes, put the phone into airplane mode for ten seconds and take it out again; that solves it most of the time. If it is still blank, turn off automatic network selection and pick the local operator from the list yourself.

Accra and Tema carry well right across the city, and so do Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Ho and Sunyani. The coast road west holds up through Cape Coast, Elmina and Busua, and the beaches around Ada and Kokrobite are fine. It thins where the country empties out.
