Which networks will you be on in Guernsey?

Sure covers Guernsey with 4G island-wide and also reaches Herm, Sark and Alderney, though coverage there cannot be promised. In St Peter Port, at the Bridge in St Sampson, around the airport at La Villiaze and along the west coast bays from Cobo through Vazon to L'Erée, reception is unremarkable in the best sense. It gets thinner where the island gets steep: in the wooded vaux, down in Petit Bot and Moulin Huet, in stretches of the southern cliff path, and inside old granite houses with thick walls. 5G is only just starting — the first sites went live in August 2026, with island-wide coverage announced for the end of 2026. So plan for 4G and treat anything faster as a bonus.

Why your home contract catches you out on Guernsey
Guernsey is its own territory with its own mobile networks. To your provider back home the island is a destination in its own right, and in many contracts it falls outside exactly the zones your data allowance covers. What follows is itemised billing: per megabyte, or a daily rate that applies even if you only glanced at the map.
The uncomfortable part is not so much the amount as the fact that you cannot see it in advance. A prepaid data bundle turns that around. You pay once before you fly, and what your phone does on the island after that costs you nothing further. No contract, no notice period, no bill three weeks later. When the data runs low you top up — or you don't.
Where the network reaches, and where it doesn't
Sure covers Guernsey with 4G island-wide and also reaches Herm, Sark and Alderney, though coverage there cannot be promised. Most of a trip happens in the well-covered part of the island anyway: St Peter Port with the harbour, Castle Cornet and Hauteville House, the Bridge at St Sampson, the airport in the parish of Forest, the west coast bays from Cobo through Vazon to L'Erée, and the northern tip at L'Ancresse.
The honest part: on an island with steep coasts there are dead spots. In the narrow wooded vaux, down in the bays at Petit Bot, Moulin Huet and Fermain, in stretches of the cliff path and out on the water between the islands, the signal can simply go. Download the island map offline beforehand and a dead spot stays nothing more than a dead spot. And plan for 4G: Sure's 5G network has been under construction since August 2026 and is far from everywhere yet.
Guernsey, Jersey and Britain are three separate mobile territories
Guernsey has its own mobile networks and most home contracts do not treat it like the mainland. That is why the Channel Islands often do not appear in a plan's included zones at all and are billed separately instead — frequently per megabyte or at a daily rate. This eSIM is for Guernsey; Jersey, or travelling on to Britain, each needs a plan of its own.
One practical tip: switch data roaming off on your normal card once the eSIM is running. Otherwise your phone keeps pulling data over the old contract in the background, and that is exactly the bill that surprises people after the trip.
