You do not pick a network, ou do not set anything up. In Slovenia the eSIM is allowed on Telekom Slovenije and Telemach, your phone picks one of them by itself when, ou switch on — already at Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport in Brnik. If it loses signal, in a mountain valle, in a tunnel or near the border, it moves to another one on its own. Only if a connection feels permanently sluggish in one spot is it worth going into the network settings, turning automatic selection off and trying the other networks by hand.
You have coverage everywhere people live, drive: Ljubljana, Maribor, Celje, Kranj, Koper, the coast around Piran, Portorož and Izola, Bled and Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, Ptuj and Novo mesto, plus the motorway from Maribor through Ljubljana to Koper and the A2 from the Karawanks tunnel through Ljubljana towards Croatia. The train lines Ljubljana–Jesenice and Ljubljana–Koper stay connected almost the whole way too. 5G is mostly a city thing; in the countryside you will usually be on 4G, which is plenty for maps, bookings and video calls. It gets thin in the narrow valleys of the Julian Alps — the upper Soča valley around Bovec and Trenta, the Vršič pass, the Logarska dolina and side valleys of Triglav National Park. And underground, in the Postojna and Škocjan caves, no mobile network reaches at all.

What the coverage means for your route
Slovenia is small but very, rtical. On the classic loop — Ljubljana, Bled, Bohinj, Kranjska Gora, the Soča valle, the coast — you are well covered most of the time: in the towns, on the motorways, at the well-known viewpoints and in the ski areas. Gaps show up where the mountains get in the way: the hairpins over the Vršič pass, deep in the gorges around Tolmin and Bovec, or in side valleys of Triglav National Park.
In practice: download your hiking map, the guesthouse address, our train ticket while you still have signal, do not rely on live navigation up in the mountains. In Postojna and Škocjan there is radio silence underground anyway, and that applies to every SIM equally. For everything else — paying for parking in an app, finding a restaurant, showing a ticket, a video call home — the network is more than enough day to day.
